Donate to Peoria Astronomical Society
The Peoria Astronomical Society is a non-profit organization of amateur astronomers from Peoria, Illinois and the surrounding community.
Membership fees only "keep the shop open"; donations allow Peoria Astronomical Society to improve its facilities and its service to the community.
Small donations might be easily deducted on income tax filings even if deductions are not itemized. Larger donations from retirees with IRAs might benefit from IRS rules regarding Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs) while avoiding the need to itemize deductions.
Paypal is used for this donation, either via your Paypal account or your credit/debit card account.
Qualified Charitable Distributions
IRA owners age 70½ or over have the option to transfer up to $100,000 to charity tax-free each year, before the end of the year. Peoria Astronomical Society qualifies for these types of transfer. Also, for those who are at least 72, QCDs count toward the IRA owner's required minimum distribution (RMD) for the year. QCDs become tax-free if they're paid directly from the IRA to an eligible charitable organization. They can be made electronically, directly to the charity, or by check from the IRA payable to the charity. To re-emphasize, the funds may not pass through the hands of the donor; the donation must be direct from the IRA to the charity. Also note that we can only handle cash transactions at this time; we are unable to accept securities.Donors should consult their accountant, tax advisor, or tax attorney regarding details of QCDs.
