Aquila

Abbreviation: Aql
Genitive: Aquilae
Right Ascension: 19.67 hours
Declination: -2.50 degrees
Aquila is visible in the Northern Hemisphere from July thru October and part of the summer triangle.

Aquila (the Eagle) is the messenger from heaven, leading souls to immortality. In Greek mythology Aquila was called the 'storm bird' and carried Ganymede to Mount Olympus so he could be the cup bearer to the gods. Early civilizations confused the eagle with the vulture and the name of this constellation was also known as Vultur to the Romans.

Deep Sky Objects

(PAS Catalog)

NGC-6781

NGC 6781 This fine planetary nebula is relatively bright and large, being about 2' in diameter. This grey puffball of light is reminiscent of the Owl Nebula in Ursa Major. The southern portion of the nebula is slightly brighter than the northern portion, and I saw no central star.
